Replacement of Variocam actuator
'99 996 Coupe with manual transmission.
CEL came on and the car coded Cam adjustment Bank 1.
Can the driver's side actuator (solenoid) be replaced with the engine in the car??
Any insight before I climb under the car would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I just pulled the invoice for an idea of what has to be done. Apart from the original diagnosis it shows "removal and replacement of cam cover. Replace bank one vario cam adjustment solenoid. Replace spark plug tube o rings. Resealed cam cover retaining bolts." I also seem to remember a comment before the work was done that it's often necessary to replace one or more spark plug tubes when the cam cover is removed but I seem to have gotten away without that. They charged 4 hours labour and C$300 for parts which was C$241.62 for the solenoid and the rest was for o rings sealant and something called a "Cylinder head cup seal".
