My day started great, until at 80 mph I blew out my RR tire, seemed to have picked up a nail the day before, unbenounced to me. Changing a tire during the am rush with no shoulder to stop on was a PIA.
I must say the porsche tire change setup is excellent, thank god my yr have spares. The car with psm was remarkably stable, awsome system.
Of course the night before my wife told me my RR looked a little low, I, of course blew it off, what could she know??

Sorry to hear about your day. I had a flat 2 weeks ago RR as well. No blow out, however. It was on the sidewall. It was a slow leak and I was able to get air into it without it loosing it too fast. Luckily, I had bought a road hazard warranty with the dealership. They took care of one of the tires and I had to buy the second ($355 for my Pirelli junk).
At least you'll have two new tires and above all else, you're safe.

I have smart tire moniters in my summer tires and it is very helpful. I do not have a hard mount but just plug the moniter into my cigarette lighter and it will give me readings in a few minuits. The only hassel is on installation, you have to go to a Tire Rack or similar dealer who knows how to do it. I think Porsche should make tire pressure moniters standard. My M5 has it and it is a 2001. Chris - I know exactly how you feel after my LR tire ordeal last week. It is a good thing about the spare tire, but it does look strange with that skinny little thing on the car!
If you have Pzero Rosso, I can get you a used one for cheap. That'll save you from buying a new rear set. You can also ask dealer to see if they have any matching tires. They usually have some in their lot by service bay when someting similar happened to someone else, ending up with one decently worn tire.

Oh it blew, in more ways than one. I must have hit the nail yesterday, lost air on the road and the inner sidewall blew out circumfrentially and the car nearly spun at 80mph on the grand central this am. sorry if I held anybody up. Yes it blew.
I had a right rear blow on an E39 BMW a few years ago--it was a really hot day and I always wondered if the increased pressure had something to do with it.
I'll bet right sided blow-outs are a lot more common than left. The right side tends to pick up more road debris (i.e. nails) and although hopefully not in our Porsches, probably the right sidewall gets curbed more.

I would have expected you to notice that when you let up on the gas, the car would have pulled to the right if it was low on air, especially if the leak began the day before. I have drivien over 1.5 million miles and never had a blow out. (Lucky I guess). I have had many flats, but low pressure in any tire is easy to notice and correct before catastrophic damage occurs. Ribbed tires are designed to give you that protection, as they can loose half their pressure and still be driven on. But the low pressure is easily noticed while driving.
