I got one for Christmas, it's pretty cool. Very distracting though, when I first got it I had it on all the time and would try and see how many G's I could pull in my favorite corners. I found myself looking at the G-Tech more then the road. It's a fun toy though.

Rob, do you have your permanently mounted or do you use the suction mount? Do you think the reliability is better in the perm mount condition?

I just use the suction cups. The windshield has a line going through the center so centering it is easy. If you really wanted to get serious you could put a level on I suppose.

I have the Beltronics version in yellow. Use it all the time. It friction fits in the lower cubby. I use peak hold, and only look at it afterwards. It's a great way to tune suspension, brakes, engine without relying on your "butt-o-meter". It's much more objective Highly recommended. With that said, anyone want to buy mine? The yellow is too obnoxious for my interior/exterior, and I would like to do a permanent install with a different version since I use it so much.

That's a Homelink hack. 2 garage doors and a gate. The small hole to the right is for the LED. It's wired into switched power so you can't operate it if the top is down. The only downside is you have to operate it by braille at night.
I have another factory key switch that I hacked to do 2 doors, night illumination/dimming, and LED operation indicator. It just wouldn't do the gate since that's a different remote. Hence, garage door hack 2.0.

Rob in WA and c70Pete,
Just curious what kind of G's you guys have been able to pull in corners, braking, etc.
0-60, I can manage a 5.5 on R-compounds. I could probably do a little better, but I just don't want to thrash my clutch, drivetrain (wheel hop), and tires. I've only made maybe 1/2 a dozen runs--just not a lot of places/times I can do this safely.
Sorry, not as fast as you 911 guys (Mine is a Boxster S.)

Do they automaticaly stop when you reach 60mph and give you your time or you have to have your finger on the button to press when you reach 60?????

It only plugs into the cig lighter. It will log 0-10, 0-20, 0-30, etc., etc., as long as it detects that you are still accelerating. It knows your speed by "integrating" your G's (from accelerometers) over time. Integrate again and you have distance. It cacluates all sorts of things like 60 ft, 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile, etc. There are also numerous configurable settings such as rollout, "squat", body roll, and weight.

I skeptical at first too, it's not black magic - it's incredibly accurate. I know people who have had them at the track for 1/4 sprints and they're in sync. The measure horsepower part is the only feature that's kind of silly. You also have to input the "horsepower factor" (drivetrain loss, and drag). To do this you use a correction factor between the manufacturer's rate hp and the G-timer's calculated peak wheel Hp.
I can't remember what kind of G's I was pulling it's been a awhile since I had it up. I can't remember getting past .91-3 w/out PSM kicking and my heart rate rising.

I think Boxster Ses typically get mid-to-high 0.9's in the corner. I have various mods, and I can run it up to about 1.02 to 1.03 on street tires without creating a scene.
