problem locking
Today I couldn't lock the car from the remote. It didn't honk at me. It just didn't respond. The remote's trunk release didn't work either.
My first inclination is that the key fob remote has gone bad. But the LED on the fob does flicker. I tried it by putting the remote a few inches from the dash sensor. No luck.
I can lock & unlock the car with the key. On one of those directions (I think it was unlock) the horn beeps once simultaneously. Other observations:
The LED on the radio flashes when the key is out of the ignition.
The LED on the dash flashes when I've locked up manually.
I checked to make sure the doors, trunk, engine lid and armrest storage compartment are all properly shut. They appear to be. I don't see any "open door" indication on the instrumentation.
The interior buttons for the trunk and engine releases work properly.
Anyone have an idea why I can't lock with the remote? Thanks.

I saw a thread recently that discussed resetting the key. There was something about placing the battery in the opposite pole direction for several seconds and then inserting it correctly. Also this link for extending the range:

Sorry I don't have the other link. But check renntech.

unfortunately I have just the one remote key.
since the trunk does not unlatch from the remote either, I'm pretty sure it must be the remote. I think that I'll try a new battery and if that doesn't work I'll try the reverse polarity trick. And if that doesn't work I guess I'll be going to the dealer...my first post-warranty visit. ugh.

happy ending...turns out the remote had gone bad.
One local dealer offered a new head $175 + 1 hour service ($150) to solve the problem ($325 !!!).
Fortunately I was in no hurry, so I mail ordered the remote from Sunset Porsche ($84) and then paid the other local dealer for 1/2 hour - $75 (even though they did the work in 10 mins). Still I feel fortunate that for this first repair outside my warranty it cost "only" $159.
