Yes, I was hoping that he'd acknowledge something. In fairness, my guess is that he may have had someone else open the trunk for him (ie. his daughter, who has been known to run from guilt in the past).

To follow up, I found the allen bolts. They were difficult to find, as my carpet was overlying them. After pulling up the sill, the trunk release switch snapped back in place without issue.
