Default Window problem

Y'all know how the window is supposed to come down slightly when the door is open, then go up when the door is shut, right? There's a gremlin in my door. The window does come down when I open the door handle, but goes up as soon as I let go of the handle regardless of whether the door is open or not. I have to hold the door handle, either the inside or outside, slighlty open to keep the window down and close the door. If I let go of the handle, as you normally would, the window goes all the way up and catches outside of the weatherstrip.

Called the dealer and I have an appointment this coming Tuesday. Service manager thinks it needs to be reprogrammed. 10 minute job, he says. I'm not too sure that's what it is. Anyway, it bothers me that there's something wrong with my four wheeled buddy, and Tuesday's too far away. I hear a sensor getting tripped everytime I move the door handle. Maybe it's something simple that I can do, like turn a screw to re-align it or something. Anyone have this gremlin in their door window before?

Default Mine has the same gremlin

My door does exactly the same thing. I wonder if anyone knows the reprogram sequence. I searched the RennTech site; searching anything with window gives 100,000,000 hits.

If you bump the door into the door jamb lightly the window will go to the 1/4" down position. Then I can close the door.

I've bought 5 cars from this dealer, with two Porsches and two other cars actively being serviced. I called last Friday afternoon at 5 PM. They'll sneak the 10 minute job in as the first car next working day. If they charge me a single dime for a 10 minute job, I'm taking my future business somewhere else. They know that .

There is a sensor for the door handle being pulled. There has to be another sensor that senses the car door being open. I think that sensor's the problem. With Stan's technique of closing the door, I think that sensor is in the door jamb/latch. Replacing that may take more than 10 minutes. Bummer.

Stan - Man, the gremlin must have jumped from your wheels to your window. There seems to be a distinct pattern here. It's the "W" Gremlin! Once you get your window issue resolved, look out for the next "W" problem like washers, wipers, wide-***, er... no, that would be hips, scratch that one!

Seriously, I'm glad you were able to "exorcise the possession" of your wheel problem. Sorry to both you and Palting that I can't help resolve the window issue.

I suspect the signal for the door open is in the latch. I am goin going out to disassemble and see whatnit looks like. Could be as simple as cleaning and rseating the plug.

Let me know what you find, Stan.

BTW, you do know that all these problems are still covered by warranty, right? Don't get too aggresive and void the warranty.

Not sure if relevant or same procedure, but had the same gremlin on my 05 Boxster S. The dealer basically hold the window switch down for 20" and told me this is how they reprogram it (actually factory reset it). Maybe worth trying - especially if it'll save you $200

your key must be in ignition position 2.

I am going to try the 20 sec gig. I looked at taking apart the door; but as Palting said, warranty.

Gota911, I have learned that 11mm of wheel shim is a bad thing. When I have to mix paint I'll reinstallate and strap the can to the stearing wheel. My wife asked if it was "shaking like the washer", I think she has played with that shaking washer if you know what I mean. I was stressed out about the car and she's thinking nasty with a smile on her face.

Bingo. Chances are you are going to need a new door latch module. There is a microswitch inside it that tells the car when the door is closed/open and locked/unlocked. These almost always fail in the closed position. The car thinks the door is still closed. If you go over to the other side and pull the handle up just enough to get the window to drop and let go of the handle you will notice the same behavior. Unless you feel like tearing the door apart dont bother looking for a plug to reseat. If this is your drivers side door, make sure your manual locking of the car still works after the repair as its very easy to forget to insert the rod from the locking barrel into the new door latch module.

I'm glad it worked - as I said by Boxster had this issue and I remember it drove me mad the window would randomly just pull down. I left a couple of times my car with passenger window half-open w/out realizing. Went to the dealer and started screaming - then he did the 20" trick

Maybe I need to come up w/a Video Series called the 20" Porsche Fix LMAO

have a good weekend guys...

My 2001 C2 would also randomly pull down the drivers window. Also drove me mad cos you could not know when it would do it again. It did it whenever and whereever.
Seems now fixed due to the 20" Porsche fix
