Default Key FOB Question?

I have a 2001 996TT with 3 button positions within the car for the seat and mirror memory. I purchased an extra full function key, the one with the remote transmitter.

Here is my question. I set memory position 1 to my original key FOB and want memory position 2 to be for my 2nd key FOB. This is what I tried to no avail. I turn the ignition to "ON", press memory position 2 in the car and then press and hold "M" while pressing the door lock/unlock on key 2. It does not work. The seats go all the way to the forward position and all the way up. How can I program memory position 2 to my newly purchased key FOB?

The manual does not specify how to program multiple keys.

TIA,
Adam

Isnt there a button w/ a key symbol on it?
If I remember correctly, put your new key in and press the KEY button. Now the seat will be programmed for that key in whatever position your currently in...The 1,2,and 3 buttons are additional presets you can set once you get into and settled in your seat...

That is correct. The key button is used for each of the keys. The 1 and 2 are other presets.

Yes, my key does have the key button. Do I press and hold the "M" memory button and then press the key button or simply press the key button on the remote?

Thanks, as always you guys are great!

Adam

I don't have the manual with me but as I recall you set the seat the way you want it, then push the memory and key button in the car simultaneously. You can test it by moving the seat, locking and unlocking. The seat should go to where you set it.

That is exactly what I did and it still is not working properly. Maybe there is a problem with key FOB 2 or the memory module in the car?

I'll have to stop the the dealer.

Try this:

Put the key you want to have associated with the settings in the ignition, turn the car on.

Next set the seat and mirrors the way you want them

Put the transmission in reverse (this activates the right mirror "dipping" feature)

Press the "key" button on the memory setting panel.

This should associate those settings with the key.

Yeah, I tried this. Must be a problem with the key or memory module.

I'll have the dealer look at this next time it's in for service.

Thanks everyone for your input.
