Hey guys...I just had a guy call me (a couple times) and beat me up over my price. I am offering my car at $40K obo. From what I have found, I have the lowest priced, lowest mileage, cleanest, 996 Aerokit car in the country. Is this a good price for what the car is?

I think your price is kinda on the low side. If you were asking $42,500...I probably wouldn't balk knowing what you've done to it mod wise and stuff.

The price is good, however, mods tend to lower the value of a car in general. Sometimes it is best to strip the car back to stock and sell the parts sep.
I think you should be able to sell it, just be patient.

I think you have it priced right, at least by MD standards for a private sale. A guy who works at Valley Motors in MD has a well equipped '99 996 with 27K miles for sale for $40k. I imagine the car wholesales in the low $30s, so you should get high $30s at a minimum.

chad, as of today i found >70 '99 996s listed nationaly for under $40k. there were quite a few in the low to mid thirties w/ similar miles as yours. i sold an '00 c2 for $30k and it was loaded, albeit w/ high mileage. it's the old bird in the hand...if you've got a ready and willing buyer, try to meet in middle and sell it now. i eventually sold it for $5k less than my first offer six months previous.

I think your price is more than fair for the car. However, I think your modifications can scare off a large majority of the potential buyers that only want a Porsche 911 without knowing too much about the cars. Therefore, you are more than likely going to get more knowledgeable buyers that will inquire. Unfortunately these same buyers also happen to be the ones that actually think and/or will talk the talk that all the 996 prices are "sinking fast" and the 996 cars are basically worthless or soon will be and will negotiate very hard on the price.
Patience will be key with your car.
If you want a quicker sale and/or less of hassle you may consider putting the car back to stock form (i.e. factory suspension, GT3 delete, and factory steering wheel). The biggest problem with modifications is you have to find a buyer that wants the exact same mods you have done. As popular as aftermarket suspensions are on Rennlist, we are in the minority and the majority of the general public associates non-factory suspensions with driving hard, abuse, racing, track work and/or just rice (and none of it probably true but that doesn’t matter as it is all about perception).
Personally I think you could put the car back to stock and get the same price if not more for it. Then make some money selling the mods to enthusiast on a site like this. Good luck on your sale.
