Hi All,
I looked over the DIY for replacing the brakes and it seems pretty straight forward. The one area where I'm confused though is on the actual removal of the pads. Anyone have any suggestions or advice on that. The last time I changed pads myself (on a different car) I took the caliper off. That doesn't seem to be required for the 996.
Also, any advice on pads would be good. I don't track the car so I was thinking of just going with OEM. Any opinions?
Thanks,
Tim

There is a DIY on renntech, Loren's forum that I use. Get a motive bleeder while you're at it, and follow his instructions. I have done them many times and it's simple.

DO NOT REMOVE THE CALIPERS unless you are replacing your rotors as well. Straight pads should take just a few minutes per wheel. Very simple especially after you have done once or twice.

It's pretty straight forward, and I would bleed the brakes anytime you compress the pistons, so you might as well change the fluid to something better. Motul is cheap. There really isn't anything else to explain that isn't on that diy, except if you get pagid pads or another non OEM pad you might have to drill them for wear wensors. Titanium bits work great for this, especially when using race pads- other bits just die!
