My wife loves the classic shape of the 911. So when I bought my 996 she was happy but a tad mifed that I didn't discuss it previously (read get approval). Now that she has her Rover she overlooked the lack of pre-approval.

The best trick is that when the better half if you want to go shopping you answer the two words that are the key to a sucessfull relationship : "yes, dear".

You go shopping once in a while and they tend to tolerate your addiction. Small price to pay for peace at home.

My wife is pretty into the p-car although she won't admit it. Wanting one has been a sore point for quite a long time since I've wanted one since I was little and she just thought it was a car. Now that we have it I can't keep her out of it! Haven't quite convinced her that doing a bunch of mods will make it even better

Related question - how many of you just sit around nervous if your wife or SO takes that car out by themselves? Hmmm?

First time I took my wife for a ride in the Porsche, she could not stop giggling... I think she almost loves it as much as I do, but she would probably not admit it.

I posted this on the BMW M5 board some time ago.....

I was just responding to a post as my wife walked into the room and confirmed her suspicion that I was on BMWM5.com again. She immediately started to ridciule us.

After the usual "Ooohhhh brother, not again". She launched into:

"How many times can you guys talk about the same stuff?

M5's are great.
How great?
Very great.
The engine is great. It makes the car go fast.
The muffler is great. The car makes really loud noises.
The brakes are great. They stop the car.
Let's get together in person and talk about the greatnes of the M5!!!
They go around cones really great.
They look really great. They're really pretty too.
Yep, M5's are really great alright!!!
We're great guys. We own great cars. We have really great taste."

She went on and on and on about this.

My wife just doesn't "get it".... or even TRY to "get it".

My wife's brand new Lexus was in the driveway for a long time because I had my hardtop in her spot until the winter storage rack showed up.

Wow. This thread grew fast.

I'll have to say my wife both shares and understands the passion. She's been suportive of it all. So much so, I'm getting a mostly track car, the 987S, and calling it "her" car. That way, there's a "His" and "Hers" Porsche. Maybe, that was her plan all along. Hmmmmmmm . Women are such devious creatures.

My wife understands, but is not in love with the car and thinks we are all a bunch of freaks chatting online....

She does however like it a bit more after the 3 carrot rock showed up on her finger...(Thank God she sells fine diamonds for wholesale...)

I'm in pretty well. The solutions:
#1. Bought her a Boxster
#2 Funded the designer shoe business of our oldest son (Brian Atwood)- formerly of Versace
#3 Built closet big enough for all her shoes (makes Imelda Marcos look like a piker)
#4 Shut up when Visa bill comes

I'm really envious of all of you guys who have wives who understand your passion for Porsches. My wife is an executive at a large investment firm. To her a car is nothing more than a rapidly depreciating asset and a means of getting from point A to point B in a comfortable and safe manner. Consequently she can't understand why anyone would "throw away their money on expensive toys."

Let's face it, you either have a passion for cars or you don't. And if you are in the "don't category", no amount of discussion will ever get you to understand the passion of those of us who love performance cars.

Me, too. I got my wife interested in sports cars back when we were dating in college in the '60's and the first car she bought for herself was an MG-B. She loves our 911 and, until she switched jobs last summer, drove it every day to work. She really likes the vintage Porsches and for our 30th I got her a 356B cabriolet that we saw advertised in Excellence. She drives it every weekend out at the beach and really loves it. When I had a chance to buy a '73 Dino, which is the car of my dreams, she was fully supportive. Her only question when I want a new car, like the 997S cab that we have on order is, "Can we afford it?"

Only one of the twelve was a Tip S. She can't drive stick and I learn quick.

Default Wife Humbly Accepts Obsession

My wife is Austrian, and although a strict adherer to speed and traffic laws (to a fault!), she seems to accept this obsession as net-positive (albeit expensive!). For example, when we just travelled to Vienna last month to visit her family, she had no issues with me taking a 14-hour train and bus trip to the mecca that is Gmünd, as long as I was back in time to visit with her Mom the following evening (Automuseum Pfeiffhofer in Gmünd was awesome, by the way!). When I ramble on about history, specs, events, etc., she gets glassy-eyed, but then again, we all have our own fixations, don't we?

BTW - Mephisto shoes are much cheaper in Europe - offer your wife a "shoe shopping trip" in Germany, but the condition is that you get to rent a Turbo! And, believe it or not, they make incredibly comfortable walking shoes for men, too - they are the Maybach of shoes (are there any luxury cars hand-made in Portugal?)
