turbo vs E55?

turbo vs E55?
Have any turbo owners or 911 owners driven the E55? I know that it can't handle like a Porsche, but how did it feel in comparison to your car in straight line acceleration? Thanks.

Speaking of E55's, I need another ride besides my p-car and the E55 is on the short list. I've trolled around on the internet a bit but haven't found a good classified resource for used E55's (I'm sure they're in short supply too...). Anyone know of one? I don't want to go new on this car.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Thought about the M5, but there is a long wait list, something like 6months. And you know that they are going to raise the price over MSRP like crazy for the first year. Also, not crazy about the I-drive in the BMW's. I couldn't believe the 1/4 mile time for the E55 in one of the car magazines, something like 12.1! That's as fast as the turbo, but is a sedan. Crazy.
TD in DC,
I knew you met nothing by your post. I appreciated your opinion. Now are you ready for that molar root canal

Joe2000C4Cab ,
I have been looking on ebay, cars.com, and autotrader.com. I also picked up an issue of DuPont Registry at the book store.
04's with low miles run around 76-81K

Toothdoc-
I've never driven a turbo so I can't make the direct comparison, but I have driven my father's E55 extensively. I would believe the 1/4 time. The effortless speed out of the car is simply awesome - just keeps pulling. My old E46 M3 feels a bit sluggish in comparison (now driving a VW R32 for the interim and trolling the p-car classifieds). I think the handling is good too for what it is - great turn in and lots of stick. BTW, Mercedes is now producing a E55 Wagon for the US market. When I first saw one on the street a couple weeks ago I thought it was a custom job, but today I saw one for myself at a dealership - sweet.
The only issues to be aware of re: E55 that I know of are - - the OE Continental tires are crap - we replaced with Michelin PS2 when the road noise from the Contis got unbearable, and the supercharger belt squeaks.
New M5 looks like it is going to be great, but I wouldn't want to be an initial buyer. I like BMWs alot (M3 was a blast) but I suspect the V10 is gonna have teething problems. The rod bearings on my M3 were replaced twice under the various recalls/campaigns (note - I never experienced any motor problems on the road).

I drive may be a pain in the ***
6 months is not a long wait in the UK there was a longer waint list than that for the standard boxster that had been on the market 7 years!
if you want strightline then get a E55
if you like the way your 996 handles then at least wait and test drive an M5 - 6 months is not that long

A true story : Two months ago I was nicely driving at an (illegal) speed of 110 mph aprox. I looked at my mirror, an E55 had just reached me . We began to accelerate. The road started to get curvy. Only after the first 3 corners....no more E55. Amazing how an E55 can disappear...
PS.- I have not driven an E-55 but some years ago I owned an M5 . One of the best cars I have ever owned. I am a good driver but, it could not keep up with a "normal" Porsche in winding roads. ( But I could "fight" for more than 4 corners..). I loved my M5, they were (are?) just not comparable.
