This is inconsistent with many of the posts on this board, but a couple weeks ago I finished two track mods for the 996 that consisted of adding weight and raising the hieght of the car. The results were amazing on the track.
Took first place in all heat races and second overall by a margin of a quarter car length.
I also used some wheel spacers that resulted in the tires extending beyond the body about 1/2" but it was fast. I also added a rear wing.
I will post some pics when I get a chance.

Success!!
My son had his heart set on a 911 Turbo for his Cub Scout Packs annual pinewood derby, so after many hours of my carving and his painting and wing attachment we had a rather unique Porsche.
We did have to add weight and increase the ground clearance in order for it to be fast. He was very excited as in addition to a 1st place trophy for his Wolve Pack he got a 2nd place overall trophy for all the levels of Cub Scouts. He also got 3rd overall for design and with very little help from dad!
I was a bit biased and it being the only Porsche there, thought it should have received 1st place in design by default. It lost to a Lizzard Car!

That's a great car. Thanks for the post. Brought back some good memories of my first pinewood derby.
