I really wasn't impressed with the looks, the car is kinda boring looking, and if you don't know much about cars you'd have no clue this was a $90,000 car.

I really don´t want it, but a friend of mine asked if I didn´t like it over the 911 (cause the Maserati is cheaper), I said NO, and he asked me why... My only reason was that I loved Porsche, but I got interested in knowing the difference between cars..
Thanks

IMO, the maser *looks* more $$$$ than a 911. Then you have the exclusivisty - we see 996 everywhere!
Then there's practically a ferrari V8 in there.
But yeay, its a GT and the F1 is universally panned, stick w/ the 6spd.

the 996 outruns the 3200 GT... they are pretty much the same a strait line... but as tested on hockenheim and the ring... hte 996 kicks ***.

I don't think the Maserati's interior is nicer than my 04 C4S (nicer than pre 02's 996).
The interior looks more Japanese style to me, but of course this is all subjective.
And of course he can't put his top down doing 30MPH like I can

their both a little bland... I mean the 996 is decent but not much more than that.... the maserati should be a lot nicer for the type of car it is... Aston Martin interiors win hands down

maybe the new aston martin db9, vantage, but have you seen the previous body style DB7 aston martin interior? garbage for a $200k car (with tax, lic, reg) and as bad as the 996 interior is.. it's still much nicer than the aston db7 prev interior imho.. the db9 has changed that all of course... as has the 997.. these companies have realized they gotta keep up.. the dot-com boom is over, and for $100k+, people aren't just gonna settle for speed and prestige anymore, they want the entire package...
i'm still very fond of the sl55 interior.. it's the most luxurious, comfortable convertible i've ever experienced. in a car with such power and prestige... i could drive cross country in that thing... could't say the same for much any other car out there in the sports car category..

You can probably call your local Ferrari/Maserati dealer and ask them.
Sorry, my friend is car-retarded.

yeah...just checked out their website.
The new interior is much better - as is the 997, but the maser still wins.
Hey, the 911 is a sports car, the other a GT...
But why must it be so damn UGLY!
The spyder is actually nicer looking than the coupe IMO
but then fcars (post nsx) have evolved into the coolest interiors

Drive them both and decide. I looked at them [Maserati GT Coupe and Porsche 997] - and they are very different. The Maserati is more of a GT car - while the Porsche is more of a pure sports car. So, it really comes down to what you want.
The coachwork in the Maserati is far superior to the Porsche and it has that italian car sound [although much subdued compared to a Ferrari, etc]. Rear seat is larger and trunk is very usable. It does have the quirky italian driving position [pedals are little off-set towards the center of the car] but that's something you get used to very quickly. As far as depreciation, there are plenty of good 1 year old cars to be had with 3000-5000 miles for a decent discount. The Maserati still has the depreciation curve of a falling brick, so personally, I would go used on this unless you will be keeping the car for long enough it won't matter. I tested both the 6-speed and the Cambiocorsa and personally, prefer the 6-speed. The F1 gearboxes still are not that smooth under normal [street] driving profiles. They really come into their own shifting at high revs and hammer down.
The Porsche is a much tighter drive. It just has a sports car feel vs. a touring car. In comparison, it's not nearly as practical [but we still carry the baby seat, stroller, etc in it] or as luxurious with its typical German [utilitarian] interior. But, depends on what you are looking for. My decision was easy, I drove them both and I went with the 911. If you are looking for a nice touring car - the Maserati will treat you well. If you want a real sports car - the two really don't compare and the Porsche [IMHO] wins hands down.
