16 years old - 73 914 1.7
had that car for 11 years....crashed it during my first week in atlanta. (not my fault - he pulled out in front of me) i have only been porsche-less for 2 years since i started driving in 1984. VERY lucky!!!!

First car (in 1981) - a 1972 chevy Nova coupe, 250 CID straight 6 dog-tracking dieseling embaressment. Blue with white roof. Mildly customized by me to try and attain coolness with chromed GM rims and raised white letters. Audiovox, Jensen tri-axles. White carpet remnant on back shelf. replaced (personally) - water pump, front brakes, alternator and thermostat. Sold for $200 profit though after 3.5 years and 20k miles.

First Porsche - 2004 996 bought December 2004 w/ 5k.

 

First car-1952 Mercury 2 dr hdtp with Merc -o-matic. Great car drove it all thru high school.

First care - 1972 Pinto, yes, the exploding Pinto. To top it all off, brakelights did not work, and I couldnt afford the $90 brake light switch. Nice... an exploding car with no brake lights We are only imortal for a limited time (Rush lyric).

First P-car - 1978 SC, and those brake lights worked..

 

First car- My dad's hand-me-down 1946 Chrysler Royal with a Spitfire six and fluid drive. But, I was sixteen and it might as well have been a Rolls Royce. ...memories.

 

Nick, I know the exact feeling. My 72 Nova (means "no go" in Spanish) was a red four door, but had the same lame in-line 6 dieseling pos. Did you have that wonderful two-speed automatic? Totalled mine.

(Trivia point: Chevy relaunched the Nova as a rebadged Corolla in the late '80's. Sales were horrible -- they did some research and discovered that the Nova had the 2nd-worst name recognition of all time, after the Edsel. Not sure why the "unsafe at any speed" Corvair wasn't in there).

2nd car: Fiat X1-9. Bought used and barely working as a fixer-upper. The car vanquished me. On one road trip, got all the way to LA and half-way back (blew a head gasket).

3rd car: '72 Volvo sedan. Slower than the Chevy and the Fiat, if that's possible.

4th car: '86 Subaru wagon (do you see a trend here?)

1st car with more than 125 horsepower: 95 Volvo Turbo (222 horsepower, whee!)

1st Porsche: '01 C2. I think I deserve it after all the other ones above.

 

Another 70s Vega owner: 1973 silver one, a rusty leaky piece of crap. I've still got my first Porsche (the SC) as well as all the others I've owned.
