Default Spacers ...

I have noticed that a 'lot' of people have mentions of spacers in their sigs & mod lists. From what I understand, spacers are used to accomodate aftermarket wheels with offsets that don't quite fit an automobile or to better fit over large brake calipers.

However, it would seem that the use of spacers in these capacities would present a less than optimal change in suspension geometery what with a metal plate pushing the wheel 'out' a bit more.

Some help here on the whys and what-fors?

Porsche permits spacers in their factory manuals. I don't have specifics at the moment, but I know that 5-6mm spacers with 38mm bolts are approved by Porsche..that is on a 996 02- with 225/40 and 285/30 on 8J-18-ET52 and 10J-18-ET 65. Cosmetically the wheels help fill out the wheel wells. I'm sure there are more aggresive combinations however. If Porsche says it's ok, then it's ok with me!
