Hi,
I just talked to my local dealer’s sales dept. and they said that they will not certify a 2002 Porsche car that I want to buy from a private sale (it is against their CPO policy)
.
He said that they will do a pass through (with a fee) only if the person that is selling his car to me buys another Porsche from them.
I thought that dealers will certify private sale cars for $1600????
If they don’t…then if you want the certification you HAVE to buy the car from them…and pay a more than $1600 mark up.

why would the dealer cpo a car through a private sale? the whole point of the program is to get you to buy from a dealer. btw, a ppi from a dealer is more like $300 (in so. cal, anyways).

They will not certify it because it attaches a warranty typically. The only way to do that is use the dealer as a strawman with a kickback through the transaction. You're chances of finding someone to do this are slim to none. I contemplated the same thing and tried when I bought my car.

I was told that the cost to the dealer for the waranty from PNA is $1800.00 - this for additional 2 years and up to 100k miles.
This cost does not include the cost to the dealer for the work that may be needed to bring the car into the spec.
I really do not see why a dealer would do this to help a private sale!
When I bought my 01 tt with 3k on it it was easy and inexpensive for the dealer to cert the car.
Certified programs allow dealers to sell many more used cars than they normally would. It also helps to maintain the resale value of the best units.
These programs are not to help private buyers/ sellers

FWIW - Just bought my '03 Coupe from the dealer & they charged me about $1550 for the certification. I paid it in order to get the extended warranty. (I should be covered until the next CGT
After they had my check in hand, they told me that the car had been checked (ppi) as a standard part of their due diligence and the money just covered the cost of the warranty.
