Contrary to everybody who seems to love their Targas, I could not care too much for the wife's Targa. Admittedly it is a gorgeous car and the glass lighten up the interior, but here in Germany we still get to drive fast and then the open roof is far too noisy.

Stef Scheepers - is your wifes Targa a 996 ? As far as driving fast with the Glass Panel open, I don't believe it is too loud, but again I was only going 110mph - generally here in the states we drive at 70 - 90mph on the highways, at that speed the air noise is not a factor. But as I always say "It
s All Relative"

Her's was a 2003 996 and the wind buffeting already became unpleasant at about 70mph. Very irritating sound pulses.

mabye opening a side window a bit would help with the sound buffetting, it works with sunroofs

Are you comparing this to a coupe or a cab? I can honestly say I've never experienced this; certainly the Targa with the roof open is quieter than a Cab, windscreen or no.

And the great thing about the Targa is that if the noise does become obtrusive enough to interfere with a phone call (not that I would ever use a cell phone whilst driving!), a push of the button and roof is closed in 3 or 4 seconds.

Furthermore, the glass roof of the Targa gives an open feeling even in closed up mode; a feeling not possible in a coupe or cab.

I changed from my 993 to a 996 Targa 6 months ago and love it! My mods include techno sport wheels, turbo nose with racing mesh and a Gemballa sport exhaust. Best Mod was the nose.

Good Luck

I couldn't agree more! That's the great thing about the 996 Targa, it can be a coupe when you want it to. The 993 Targa was never sturdy enough to pass off as a coupe even with the roof closed but from the comments we've had here from 996 Targa owners, it does seem that Porsche have really got the structural rigidity right with the 996 Targa.
