NOOOOO RMS leak
on my March 1998 build C2. Just trying to post good news for a change. I know most people only post when they have problems. It may jinx me, but so far so good. Burn and leak no oil after 44,000 miles. Engine hasn't blown snce increasing boost to more than 6 psi. (that's more than .41 bar on a 13.3:1 static compression ratio for you turbo guys and gals) Orginal brakes, clutch and spark plugs. I change oil every 3 - 4,000 miles or so. Always keep oil level just slightly below full mark on electronic gauge. NEVER allow a Porsche mechanic (or should I call the "part changers"?) to touch the car. Seldom shift to 2nd gear before redline.
All in all...car has been incredably dependable and strong. All that power and one of the most fuel efficient vehicles I own. I suspect that there are many out there that have also had no problems with their early built 99 996's. How about telling us about it?

99 c2 with about almost 34 thousand kilometers. i baby it around the city, keep it away from the redzone unless i'm at the track (mostly because i don't want to alert every cop in a 30 km radius) never take it downtown in rush hour..hell never taken it downtown at all except the rare occasion..too much stop and go wear and tare..i'd rather just blast up on the highways.
its seen some drag racing and circuit so the clutch is getting a bit of slip..not much tho....
bonked a curb at like 10-20km/h (not my fault).no problems...just need new balance and alignment.
the car pulls hard and behaves like its brand new.
its fuel efficient to the point where i don't mind daily driving it...only need 2 fill it once a week..so i'm getting about 300 plus kms.
