There is no handling advantage to 19". They are for looks. The wheels will fit fine. There is some debate as to that the 996 suspension can't take the extra stress of the larger wheels due to weight and tire stiffness, but this is in more reference to track speed. I feel that this is negliable on the street and the forged wheels you are choosing is lighter than some of the OE wheels. The tire sizes are hard to get it about the same diameter as stock. Your two choices are 275/30 or 315/25 with 235/35 in the front. Ride will be slightly stiffer and noise is more with my 315/25 due to such a wide tire. The new 997 designed to suspension geometry to take advantage of the 19" and they geared the car slightly to make up for the increased diameter of the rear 295/30 since it is 1 inch larger than the 996 285/30. The 996 will not take advantage of the 19" since the suspension was never designed around it. IMO buy them if you like the looks and if you track the car keep your stock wheels and buy some DOT race tires.

Don't do it!
I took previous owners 19's off my car and put carrera 5 spoke lightweights on it. It drives much better and quieter not to mention the weight savings and cheaper tire prices...
I almost bought the Champion RS97 monolites but the extra 5k was not even worth it!
It actually handles better w/ the 18's and my times prove it!
