I've been running many VIN #'s to find my perfect 996 recently and I see that some cars come up with "Vehicle Serviced". Below I have posted an example of a 2001 996 with only 13,631 miles that is currently on auction but look at all the service visits? Are these visits to the dealer or visits to the DMV for servicing regarding inspection. In fact 0n 10/20/02 it gets specific and states "suspension system and engine serviced". Can you rely on Carfax for some initial service history of the car? By the way the car still has 8 months left on the warranty. Any thoughts??

Dont know about car fax, but you can call porsche and get the warrantee service history. then you can call that dealer and ask for further info, if they are willing to go to the trouble to look for it.

Call 1-800-Porsche with the VIN# and they will give you warranty info and the original in-service dealer. Then, call the original dealer with the vin# and they will give you all the work they have done on the car, who bought it, etc. Also, ask Porsche what dealers did the warranty work, then call all of them. I also asked about type of warranty work, etc... The service techs were very willing to talk about my car, they all knew the car, the owner and everything about the car.
Carfax, tells you nothing.
It takes a while, but well worth it.

Alex,I just bought my car from Porshce of Princeton. The key for me was to put together a montage of sorts of the cars service and warranty history. Then, take it and compare it to Carfax and see if there are any gaps or any unexplained service items not noted by Porsche, the dealer or the original seller. The the original in-service dealer for my car actually offered to contact the original owner on my behalf if I was interest.
In total contrast, I busted a guy in Florida selling a 996 C4 online, essentially lying about the service history. This as I did not have access to the original service book because he "lost it", I did my own work and found out why he lost it.
