OT: Range Rovers

hey Robert...I think all cars have some gremlins and with the popularity of the internet it seems we get ALL the info now, so it seems we have more breakdowns than normal, but in reality I think it is about the same. Every car I have owned has been VERY reliable. A Saab Turbo with 250+K, a RR with 150+K, and my 2 Porsches....Boxster 75+K, and my 996 with 60+k...I fully expect my Porsche to get up to 150+k with no problems....I was simply trying to point out that no car manufacturer has 100% reliability. But I have found that if it's not a Lemon from the start, then you have got a pretty good car, take care of it and it will last many many years. Because the materials used in RR's is high quality, you can expect the structure of the vehicle to be sound for 30+ years. Motors can be rebuilt....This is why a 20 year old Rover has some value and a 20 year old Datsun is almost worthless. Same with Porsches....A good 914 is worth a lot more than most 30 year old cars. Double of what it cost new. Will a 996 hold it's value like that...probably not, but who knows...

I would take a very close look at the LR3 - My wife had three RR in the last 10 years - Many problems, mostly electrical (lucas electronics - sucks) RR switched to BOSCH, now things are better - RR do drop like a hot rock, but they are truly solid and great in bad weather, not to mention off-road. As always, I would get the latest verison my budget allows. Good luck amigo...
