which chip?
Hi all,
i recently had a visit to RUF company in germany, and i have realised they do not offer a chip for 996 series.
can anyone else suggest another make?
any comments on your stuff would be appreciated.
thanks

That's because a chip is of very little use in this car.
It won't gain you any additional power unless combined with some other modification, like a Supercharger for example.

i have used a RUF chip on my 964,
the car was a little bit more revy,
the car was a little bit more faster,
the car was a little bit more sporty,
and felt the car was a little bit more lighter
at a very reasonable cost, as far as i can remember something around $500
don't want to go for a supercharger or something more expensive and complicated.
the other problem over here were i live in athens-greece, is that if something goes wrong with the supercharger, who is going to fix it?

Harris, an Australian company, Powerchip, offers an ECU upgrade for your car. I have no affiliation with the company other than having purchased chips from them for two of my cars back in May, and I have been very pleased.
I quote: "Powerchip has a range of chips to suit your car, which can increase it's power to between 312 hp and 318 hp, and it's torque to between 268 lb.-ft and 273 lb.-ft. The price of the Powerchip is USD $990.00."
Their website is powerchipgroup.com, and the link to the datasheet for your car is: http://www.powerchipgroup.com/intera...sp?pid=Por0050.
Best of luck.

I dont know about horsepower gain, but I know that with the right chip, your car should be more responsive and pull much harder on the RPM band. You should be able to feel the difference with the right chip.
I had a factory RSR chip in my 964 and the difference was night and day. It pulled much stronger and made the car much more sportier, kinda like a race car. I feel as if my ex 964 pulled much harder at high speed compared to my 996 at the moment.

From what I understand, the 996 is different from all other versions of the 911 in that there is very little room for improvement with "bolt on" mods like headers, intake, exhaust, and chips.
You might get 3 or 5 HP here and there, but nothing significant, or justifiable, cost wise.

From what I hear that there is very little to bre gained from headers, mufflers and chips. The 99-01 cars has some decent results with chips. About 12-20 HP depending on gas and other mods. The mufflers had no gain 3-5 max and headers are worth about 5-10 HP. 02 and up cars were very well tuned by the factory so no gains are to be had with chips. I say the most HP from an 01 car is about 20 HP with all of the combined items. The key is not peak HP, but in drivability. If a chip improves the torquey feeling at the midrange than I say it was worth it. I'm ready to try powerchips as there main US distributors are near me and are willing to give a 30 day satisfaction guarentee. So I say try them harris since you can get your money back.
