Question Can a private party buy be certified by Porsche?

Just curious...If a car is purchased from a private party, and the car still has original warranty and is in very good condition passing a PPI with flying colors. Is it possible to take it to a dealership and purchase a certified extended warranty from Porsche (not 3rd party)?

Thanks.

As long as that dealership will allow you to purchase thorugh them...basically the dealership agrees to buy the car from the seller and sell it to you at the same time. This is common if somebody wants to save on the taxes (except Cali) when buying a new car.

I have a 2000 996 that I bought 2 yrs ago and it currently has 5,500 mi. The warranty expired this past April. My question is: If I have a RMS problem will Porsche still cover it? Can I still purchase an extended warranty from a Porsche dealer considering the mileage and condition?

MY00 with only 5.5K? Oh the horror! Drive that puppy. Don't think PCNA will cover it since your warranty expired this past april. There is a reason warranties expire. And the "considering my mileage" argument won't fly with them. There is no such thing as "purchasing" an extended warranty from the dealer after the fact. Besides, they will tell you the same thing......get out and drive!

You can check with 3rd party such as www.warrantydirect.com

They can make an exception. If your car has less than 50k miles, you can still get a warranty by passing a $99 inspection from them.

Also, just drive the damn car. No need to put it in the garage.

I'm gonna call the dealer about a warranty. Can't hurt.As far as the mileage... when I bought the car it was damn expensive for a low-life like me and, living in N.E Ohio, there is either rain, snow, or road repair. To be honest... I really like the car, but not as much as my 85 911 or 87 930.I drive those 2 quite a bit more. It's probably because I'm pushing 53 and living in the past!

Understandable but I would't atrribute that to being 53. I'm 32 and my favorite car to drive (yes more than the P-Car) is my 81 Datsun Z that we (my Dad when I was kid) bought back in July of 81 and it only has 60K miles on it. Absolute cherry condition and a joy to drive. Clutch still feels tight and nothing like race car engineering of the late 70s early 80s. Talk about rear wheel drift

I consider myself lucky that he passed it to me this past year (not b/c of death) just for my love of the car and he knew I would take great care of it.

Just as an FYI, the dealer pays the $1,500 directly to Porsche. This is what Porsche charges for the warranty. They are making no money on this deal.

You know Porsche will be around, but the warranty Company might not. If you search threads on this you'll read some nightmares about aftermarket warranties, and the Companies who operate them.

For a dealer to offer a "certified" car thay have to be pretty sure of it, so that's to your benefit.

You worry now what to do, I'd bet after you decided to go with the outside Company you'd drive yourself crazy about not going with Porsche.

Besides , there's a nice "certified" 997S in your future..and the idea of keeping a car forever is mainly a myth. Ask me how I know!

Enjoy your "certified" Porsche.

Look at the post above about sludge in the coolant tank and ask yourself that question again. Very likely it is a new engine and the probabilty that Porsche will cover under goodwill is low.
