I don't plan on attaching one, but I doubt that it would detach when the air-bag inflated. If it's secured well (with glue I presume) it would stay attached to the air-bag cover. The crest wouldn't be applied over the seam where the cover splits, as that wouldn't be 'centered' on the wheel.

The reason I wouldn't want one is that I don't think there should be anything in the center of the wheel with that high of a contrast to draw the eye away from the road.

OK.........this is all news to me but......I'm getting that mounting the replacement one there,
is not a safe thing to do (assuming I found out how to mount it in the 1st place).
The badge is mounted on the cover for the exploding pillow.....possibly a
good place to launch a metal projectile if that was the goal

Is that thin OE gold badge on the wheel even metal?
The silver replacement badges definately are, and do have some weight.

If you mount a metal crest over your airbag, you may end up receiving the special option "embossed crest on forehead."

This is the crest in my 2000 Boxster S. You might just be able to order the hornpad and transplant to your 996!

that is because the crest is attached as I have been told by pierciing the leather and making sure it remians retained not simply glued, unless I am wrong that is the issue

Sean........I'm not sure we are all on the same page here....both of my cars have a plastic (or aluminum) badge right now..... just like yours, ONLY GOLD COLOR.

We are wanting to change it to silver.
The aftermarket silver product is metal.
I still have no idea how to remove one, attach other, or if that's a 'bright' thing to do

Gregg, you might try calling your dealer and seeing if they can order just the factory hornpad piece with silver crest. Maybe they've kept these things in stock. I don't know if you can remove the crest from the hornpad, but you can probably change hornpads.

My silver crest came with the car..the so-called "millennium crest." I thought all year 2000 cars received this silver crest, though apparently that's not the case.

Harris
Well Eli's post ealier in this thread has the link for Pelican's page on the small metal silver badges..........as mentioned, those are the metal ones, and I believe are the same as Booth's.

BTW.....these are a tad bigger than the recess on the wheel so apparently would go over all?......rather than be recessed like OEM?
