Help Please - Passenger Side Mirror Glass Has Separated From Backing Plate
The girlfriend noticed the glass in the passenger side mirror was vibrating. Upon inspection, the glass was barely held on to the black plastic backing plate which is what then snaps into the motor assembly to hold things in the housing. It is a heated mirror. I can't see how this plate was attached to the back of the glass though. Maybe a spray-on adhesive?
I am thinking about using a good adhesive like E6000 where I place dots of the adhesive around the perimeter of the glass and then a couple the center. I am afraid to apply much more than this for fear of the dots showing up through the mirror and for fear of somehow messing up the ability to heat the mirrors. Does anyone have experience doing this? If so, I would appreciate knowing any advice and pitfalls to avoid.
I checked Auto Atlanta for the part and price. $128 just for the glass+backing plate assembly. This is for the heated version only. If you have to replace a driver's side glass that has heat and auto dimming, that will run you $635!
Thanks in advance.

On a related note, my driver's side mirror also vibrated so I took it off and saw that the mirror was delaminating from the backing. Glued it and put everything back together but it still vibrated (the window motor mounts and the window motor was solid). I just decided to live with unit this morning when I noticed that the front side of the side view mirror mount was lifted a little bit (not flush with the door). I popped the cover off the mirror remote control and saw that there were 2 T25/15mm torx bolt visible and they were tight. I looked beneath the weather stripping towards the front of the mirror and saw that there was another taped over hole that hid another similar bolt hole that was missing the bolt. I scrounged around for a replacement bolt in my assorted bolt box and found a 15mm M5 (at least, it looked like an M5) 4mm hex button head and test fitted that and it snugged up the side view mirror so it's now flush with the door. I'll test it tomorrow to see if it got rid of the vibration.

Glad you found the problem before it fully separated and the glass was destroyed. Hopefully, everyone who reads this thread goes out now and does some light tapping on the glass to see if it is starting to come loose. If it isn't, then keeping watching over time as you drive for the tell-tale sign of excessive mirror vibration.
What did you use to glue it? How much glue did you apply and where/how did you apply it? All over the back of the glass or just in a few areas? As I wrote, I used strategically placed dots/globs of E6000 because I was worried it might show through the mirror. Now that things are dry, I haven't noticed anything showing through the glass or deterioration of the silvering. I would probably apply more knowing what I know now.
Great idea to use the clamps for a really tight bond. That will ensure the mirror heating in the backer transfers as much heat a possible.
