Power increase with "Motorsound" package?
Being that the exhaust headers are increased in size, aside from the piping and the tips, increasing exhaust flow would this add any increase in power to the 996 Carrera?
Thanks,

Porsche makes no claim for an increase in hp, but some have commented that there just might be a couple of unadvertized hp there. I haven't run across any dyno test results with and without the package. Someone commented that to make a claim of additional hp, they would have had to go trough another round of EPA re-certification for cars with the motor sound package. Traditionally, Porsche has been somewhat conservative in their hp and acceleration claims anyway.

Honestly I'm not quite sure. I was told when I bought the car that it had the "motorsound" package which included larger exhaust headers, pipes and larger tips which are round.

My experience with "Motorsound" pkg only relates to the 993, it was a legitimate factory option that didn't produce any performance gains. However, it was somewhat interesting because it offered a larger chrome air intake (to produce a deeper sound), and chrome rolled exhaust tips.
For the 996, I believe that Porsche's new term is Porsche Sport Exhaust or PSE.
Chances are you have an after-market exhaust that has a throatier sound.

If in fact, you have all of the above, none of it is factory. The only factory option is what I described above. Take a look at the options sticker and see if XLF is listed.

If you take a pic of one of the mufflers, we might have a better idea.
