Is this a good place for a woofer in a cab?
Like everyone else with a cab, I have been searching for a good place to put a subwoofer.
Looking at the space between the pop-up roll bars there seems to be a good space to fit a low profile subwoofer like the Blaupunkt ODw 1000E. This speaker is 10" by 2.5" in depth. There's also a more expensive but high powered and punchy option.:Phase Linear Aliante 8si (sorry no link) is an 8" flat panel extremely efficient subwoofer and its about 2.2" in depth.
The question I have is, do you think mounting a speaker between the pop up bars is a bad idea? I can't see how it would interfear with anything but the red alen key which can be relocated. But what do you think?

What the hell, take out the engine and I could stick a Bose 802 cab in there too
Seriously though I measured the space between and it would easily take a 10 inch low profile Blaupunkt subwoofer. Only need 239 mm cutout whole and 58mm in depth.

I think some have put the subwoofer in the passenger footwell and Rod Birch at Car Audio Innovations has custom enclosures for the rear seat footwells.

Thanks Greg. I have had communication with Rod at car innovations. He's done some really cool stuff including some rear footwell enclosures.
Problem is I can't get my car to him to do the install and ordering the parts from him is a very expensive option (import duty, VAT, other taxes etc). It could cost me as much as $1500 just for the enclosures! So, I thought of having a go at making them myself but looked for an alternative.
Behind the seats seems a good place.
I've measured the free area between the pop roll bars. The area is a triangle with the widest at top being 11" and the thinest point at bottom at 3.5". This means the Aliante 8Si will fit perfectly and there's ample depth.
So I have ordered one up.
I will post pics when done.

I think your idea will work perfectly. I can't see any harm in using that space... nothing mechanical happens there.
If your project is a success I might see if that's the same part in my c4s cab... if so I may be tempted
Good luck and keep us posted!

I think that you should go for a tube sub by the likes of kenwood or jbl. I say this only based on the fact that it will fit the space better and as you have an open top the spead of the base would be better from such a central position when your roof is down.
I would also suggest you look at the option of driving the sub with a separate amp
Good luck buddy

Yes I have tried a base tube but it takes up both back seats. It's way too big to fit into the space between the pop-up roll bars.
Also, the woofer will be driven by a kicker amp which is already installed in the bonnet under a false floor. It is currently used to drive the base tube.
Here's a picture of my current setup. The tube looks awful and it uses the back seats. Also the amp install and false floor.
