Default Cab top questions

I live in the Boston area and am concerned about the effect of winter, snow and rain on the longevity and insulation of a cab top?

Is a cab as winter proof as a coupe? Any leaking?

How hard is it to put on the hardtop, how much time is needed?

Can a 10yr old child sit in the back top down or to up?

Thanks

Can't answer your first questions (I live in So. Cal), but I can answer the rest:
The hardtop is very easy to install, but you need 2 people. I can install or remove it in 3 minutes with the help of my wife (she is the strong type).
Yes, a 10 YO can sit in the back with the top up or down.

second the answer above.

The hard top also makes for better noise insulation as well as retaining heat on cold days. If you are gonna buy a cab, get the hard top. It makes for lots of nice options on the look, feel and driving experience of the car.

Of course there is an option if you want to put the top on by yourself too.

I have had no problems with my cap top in the English winter. But I have yet to take it into snow (which I won't do anyway). I thought the replacable top on a 996 was not optional? Maybe it isn't in the UK. Dunno.

I drive my car 4 seasons. Never had a leak problem. Drive it in the rain and snow (now that's fun!) I do not have a hard top. I live outside of NYC.

My son is only 3 and my wife weighs less than the hardtop so finding a one-person solution was imperative for me. I have the electric hoist from Strasse. I can back the car into the garage with the top down, lower the hardtop and gently guide it into place. It's a snap.

I like the fact that my car can have two completely different looks too - hard or soft top. ;-)

Depends on what year you are looking at. The Pre MY02s have plastic rear windows, no rear defroster. Not sure how well it'll hold up to the cold. After that they had glass rear windows with a rear defrost. The top itself is well insulated and should hold up for years. Never had any leaks.

That said, the hardtop is definitely the way to go. It has a rear defrost as well (all years). As Gretch said, better insulation, much quieter. I use my car year round, use it to go skiing in VT. The hardtop is easy to take on and off, the biggest hassle is figuring out where to store in the summer months.
