Default ICElink iPod adapter now available for Porsche

I got an email for this today. Unfortunately it is for non-MOST cars. I'm not sure that it has any advantages that are worth $200+ over just running an audio in cable to the radio. I run my ipod for 10 hours a day on its battery, and it works just fine.

ICElink adapter for Becker/Porsche

What do you think about this?

Thanks for link. Those of us with nonMOST have a great option now for our iPod.

whats the advantage over just plugging it in to the back of your head unit using the becker accessory?

this allows you to browse through the ipod using the head unit controls.

ON another note.

i guess they do listen to all the customer feedback

a few months ago, this item was listed as a future item (like the MOST version)

and i guess they got enough requests and made it for the non-most version.

either they haven't recieved enough requests for the most version, or they don't know how to make one for the MOST version (which i suspect is the case since more people with the most bus are aching for Aux-in for their ipod)...

seems like it just can't be done.

It's not because it can't be done, the whole idea of MOST was to be a bus network and protocol that was easy add peripherals to. But I bet that it is so out there, that manufacturers of potential add-ons don't see the volume to make the business case. Plus there are competing standards that have other auto manufacturers supporting them to add to the confusion. This is almost like the betamax vs VHS of 25 years ago.

The smart manufacturers are going to see the trend as a sales advantage soon, and some will be adding at the minimum an analog stereo aux input to their car radios. Others like BMW are partnering with manufacturers like Apple and their iPod and adding exclusive solutions.

i admit its not THAT bad...

but it would be nice to get true aux-in (virtually lossless) - compared to any kind of wired/wireless FM modulation...

but hey, it didn't stop me from buying another $160k pcar with the same MOST bus now did it...

mabye i'm sending the wrong message? lol

This is funny. Most people will mount the iPod right next to the head unit. So the upshot is:

Dension: $220
Becker Cable + 12-volt socket: $25

And the advantage of the Dension unit over a Becker AUX-IN is that you can change tracks with the head unit *****, which will be a mere 2 inches away from the iPod buttons. hehe...

What I'd like to see is the track title displayed on the head unit, plus the ability to navigate through the iPod menu to select playlists, etc. That would be worth paying a $200 premium for.

I'm with you Lee. $200 when you can do it for less than $50? I'm going to do your install on my new ipod when I get some time. My wife's company gave all the managers ipods, and she in turn gave it to me. I just cancelled my order for the becker monza. Why do one cd at a time, when I can have my whole collection there.
Off topic, sort of...
I find the Itunes does a crappy job of organizing my songs onto the ipod. Stuff is all over the place. If there is a track number in front of the song, it leaves it out there by itself instead of putting it in the artist's folder where it should be...and where I have it on my hard drive.
One more ipod question... Does your ipod ever get warm when you charging it?

I just ordered it. I got the docking cable instead of the docking station as I am going to have it mounted in the armrest - I don't like the clutter on the dash. Price was $149. They have firmware that will soon allow you to have track info scroll across your becker read out -and the ICElink can be upgraded. If you have the traffic pro it will show album art as well. I will post pictures of the install. The installer will put a piece of cut-out foam in the arm rest so the unit doesn't slide around.

even though the resolution would be ****, its nice to know there's that option out there, which is more than can be said with people stuck with the MOST (stupid) bus.

cool stuff bucket., so you indeed CAN scroll through playlists, /directories,

as you can display text.

yea is looks good on a full color navigation screen,

but as i said, on the traffic pro's dot matrix, it would be 2 colors and only 20x20 resolution max

I know that there have been prior posts on the topic but for some reason I am spazing during my search so hopefully someone can post how to attach the ipod using a cable.

I have the FM transmitter and hate it...as I travel to work the stations need to be constantly changed...it's intolerable and I never use it.

I am far from handy so hopefully this is not too difficult! Thanks!!

Porsches from MY03 forward have the MOST bus, and my understanding is that there is no way currently to direct connect an iPod.
