Default 996 Targa Chassis (Cab Or Coupe Based?)

The topic describes itself...

I'm a bit curious as there seems to be some mixed opinion about this

i was always under the impression that the 996 targa was based upon the cabriolet chassis, hence, making it a slightly stiffer (mabye) cabriolet with metal roof rails and a huge glass window for a roof.

however there seems to be some disagreement namely from targa owners

any 'experts' care to dispel the fog surrounding this issue?

either way this isnt intended as a bashing of the targa, its a magnificent car, loving the ingenuity of the roof, however, I would just like some closure on this debate.

thx gg

I believe the current targa is based on the coupe. The older model might have been based on the cab.

Its a Coupe and the targa roof is now installed from beneath instead of placed on top of frame..so I'm told...great fun to drive..I track mine all the time, no issues with flex or creaking.

Default Targa - Frame Design

As Per (Franklin - Porsche Internal Design Team) Informs me that the 996 Tara's are based on the 996 Coupe design, not Cab - Now we have it from the horses mouth.... Thus far, 10K miles on my Tara and not as much as a peep from the roof or frame - solid as my morning erection...

The 996 Targa being a coupe based car is also described in Porsche's literature. I'm not sure about the 993, but all previous Targas were cab based.

The 993 was definitely cab based.
