Default Speeding ticket in Wisconsin

Got nailed 77 in 55. Anyone in WI know if a) it's worth contesting b) if I can avoid the 6 points by doing driver's ed c) whether WI points show up in IL

Any advice greatly apppreciated!

If you don't have any moving violations in your immediate past, it's worth showing up in court and presenting any mitigating circumstances. For example, maybe the road was deserted and the weather was clear so you had great visibility. There's a chance that you may get probation before verdict which means that you'll have to pay court costs that vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, but you won't be charged with a moving violation unless you are found guility of another moving violation within a specified period of time. The probation time is typically six months to a year. If you are found guilty of another moving violation, you'll have the previous points assessed against your record and you'll have to pay the fine for the initial speed infraction. These are great incentives to watch your speed for at least the probation time.
