Question Question about hot running

A friend who has a 2004 C2 told me that when the weather gets very hot (95f+) his car will sometimes give a flickering oil light!

Does this sound correct? I am looking to get a 996 as my daily driver and would be a little concerned that if I end up in traffic in the summer that I am going to have problems.

Thanks!

Barry

Not normal - We get triple digit temperatures where I live and I have no problems, other than a slight increase in engine temperature

Hey CLL ACAB,
Your the first rennlister 996er I have seen who has also
had 4 RMS leaks. Mee too on my MY2000.
Sorry to hijack this thread but this is very interesting. I thought it was just my poor porker suffering. Can you give some info like mileage 1st 2nd etc.
Did they do them under warranty etc? ANy suggestion of a new engine?
We can take this into another thread i guess. Sorry houldsworth1.
Cheers,
Berny

I had two on my Boxster (previous car) at 11K and 14K and two on my C4 at 27K and 30K - all covered under warranty. My C4 also has the Porsche extended warranty - I'm not taking any chances.

With the new tool that Porsche has, they have taken the judgement call away from the service tech as to whether the engine needs to be replaced.

I also asked the service tech what would happen if I had an RMS leak right after my warranty expired and he said that because I have a history of RMS leaks, they would probably get it covered. I think that the jury is still out on this one as these "improved" seals have not been in the cars long enough to tell whether they are going to work long term. If we start to see recurring failures at 60K+ miles with cars that are out of warranty and Porsche doesn't pick-up the repair cost, I think we will start to see litigation.....Just my opinion......
