Default Engine Cover/Trunk/Wing interchangeablility

Still a new guy here and I did do some searches but nothing came up definitive for a fellow such as myself with extremely low intelligence.

Is there a guide for what trunks/engine covers/wings fit which models of 996 and how? I know the S's have the solid taillight....can a C2 or C4 be fitted with that? What about the cabrio's? Which wings/trunks will fit on that?
My specific Question is what options do I have to swap a different wing/trunk on my C4 cabrio. Can I buy a full turbo trunklid with power wing and bolt it on? If not, is there body differences, or can it be done with enough bolt on parts?
Thanks for any help, just trying to give my car a bit more flair. Gorgeous as is, I just always like something different.
Pic....because I wanted to make it more exciting. haha.

This is my understanding of what fits for the entire engine lid
  • C2/C4 Coupes & GT3 - GT3 has a different air intake location though
  • C2/C4 Cabs
  • C4S Coupe
  • Turbo Coupe/GT2
  • Turbo/C4S Cabs - They will physically fit, but you have issues with the differences in air intake and spoiler rams from the turbo

For your list, does that mean the lids are only interchangeable between models listed in the same group?

Yes, each line is a group of what fits within the group. There isn't much interchangeability for the complete lid. Apparently, though the spoiler insert for the C2/C4/C4S Cabs and Coupes is the same.

I can confirm that the spoiler itself and all mechanicals from a C2 will bolt right on a C4S....but the top T brackets of the extendable hinges that raise/lower the back of the spoiler are quite different as seen below.

Ah, OK, so a big wing from the turbo wouldnt fit the insert on the non turbos. Makes sense.

I have recently done some more research and I was incorrect. Coupe and Cabs have the same base engine lid in the base Carreras. Below is my new understanding based on part numbers

Part Number List
  • 99651201101GRV - This is the part number for C2/C4 Coupes and Cabs
  • 99651292100 - This is the part number for Turbo Coupes and Cabs
  • 99651222101G2X This is the part number for the C4S Coupe
  • 99651222102G2X This is the part number for the C4S Cab
I am pretty sure I saw someone put a turbo decklid on a C4S Cab, so I have to conclude that the C4S Cab and Turbos have the same decklid dimensions based on this thread, https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...n-turbo-2.html

Updated Fitment List
  • C2/C4 Coupes, Cabs & GT3 - GT3 has a different air intake location though
  • C4S Coupe - Only fits this model
  • Turbo Coupes and Cabs, C4S Cabs & GT2 - They will physically fit, but you have issues with the differences in the air intake and spoiler rams from the turbo

Awesome and appreciated update. Seems to match what I've been learning/seeing as well. Seems the big difference is the shape of the taillights where they meet the lid between the xxS/Turbo and Narrow Body tails.....I mean, the whole tail is different, but that is the part that matters to the Lid. I also believe, but have no confirmed, that if you removed the rectangle center taillight thing in the C4S, the Turbo lid would fit.....due to the tails being the same.
Seems that unless I do something custom, getting the Turbo wing onto the NB lid is impossible.

OP - The Turbo-like Ruf wing is a drop-in.

Just to be clear a C4S coupe rear lid is not the same dimensions as the Turbo. The Turbo lid is physically longer front to back and needs heavy modification to work on the C4S coupe. The Turbo lid will bolt right on to the C4S cab, but as been said air inlets are different.

Oddly, I didn't see a different part number for the Targa. I would have to assume it is in the C2/C4 Coupes, Cabs & GT3 group.

That is my understanding as well that the C4S Coupe lids only fit C4S Coupes and nothing else. Thanks for clarifying the Turbo lid dimensions. It was my understanding that the lids were longer on the Turbos. I guess that Porsche decided to make the lids the same size on the Cabs and the Coupes.

I’ll be more than happy to measure my C4S deck lid, just tell me what’s preferred

The C4S cab and coupe are the only ones that are not interchangeable in the same model. I.E. C2, C4, GT3 all fit, not sure about Targa's. Turbo cab and coupe, fit each other. I went down this road a couple of years ago to upgrade my decklid. I really didn't like the fit of any aftermarket lids, so I went factory Aerokit. It took a couple of years to find a factory Aerokit decklid and I paid a lot for it, but it was worth it to me. I really need to get some better pictures.

This is not correct, turbo coupe decklid fits only turbo coupe. Turbo cab and C4S cab are interchangeable. C4S coupe fits only C4S.
Turbo coupe and C4S coupe have different size filler pieces under the rear window because turbo coupe does not have the center brake light there.
