Default Oil filler tube

Just bought 2001 Carrera and decided to replace belt and air filter. While doing that the oil filler tube snapped in half under its own weight when I pulled the air box. I'm driving to mechanic tomorrow to drop for cam timing variance issue. Had to internally brace and use electric tape to put back together (have ordered a new one), hopefully allowing me to drive. The oil filler tube doesn't seem to be under pressure. Is that true? If there a risk of it not making 20 miles I could have it towed but assumed it was already in such bad condition, it will probably be ok. The tube completely broke and appeared to be almost dry rotted at the break point. That weak and it wasn't an issue before...
perspective? Experience??

Everyone who hasn't changed this filler tube out needs to do it. They are all ready to break. Yes, it's not under pressure, it is under vacuum. The crankcase typically has a small vacuum. If the temporary repair doesn't seal well enough, it will be a leak, which may affect a number of things including fueling. If it's running well after your repair, it is good for the 20 mile drive. Maybe it will throw a code. But please have them change it out while they work on the timing issue.

This same problem applies to any plastic bit in the engine compartment. The next most common item to break is the coolant nipple that routes a hose from water pump to the AOS... Good luck!
