Leather Dash Repair (Windshield is out)
Has anyone removed their inside cowl/defrost vents? I've got my windshield out until Monday waiting for parts and want to address a big wrinkle in my leather dash if I can. The pry tool fits all the way under but I don't want to force it. I don't see any screws and it seems like it should just snap in. They are ~$200 a side if I break one. Thanks in advance.

They pop out with persuasion.

Yes, they will pop out. They are held in place with plastic clips. I had them out in two of my cars while switching the interiors (wife wanted blue interior in her car instead of gray). I was able to do it with the windshields in the car so I was lifting from the rear (dash ) side.
I have the same wrinkling in the leather on the dash of my 2001. Please let me know how you fix it.
I have heard the only thing to do is replace the leather. It is supposedly caused by moisture from the AC in hot weather.

I did not. Looks like I can work around it though (see pic).
Yes, pretty easy from the dash side, not the window side.
Yup, thanks, they popped out from the dash side. I doubt I will be able to improve it much other than cleaning under the leather and gluing it down. Had higher hopes of being able to stretch the leather some to make it better but the wrinkling damage is there to stay. I don't want to try too hard and potentially make it worse either.

Leather can respond to heat, Saddle guys get the leather damp and use a iron (Special one) to shrink the leather.
Its the reason modern racing shoes are suede, the "natural" slick leather ones shrink with heat and were actually
dangerous in a fire, they would crush the bones in your foot under the heat of a car fire.

I had the same issue, and just replaced the leather dash with one I found on eBay for about $300. Prior to doing that I had talked with a local auto upholsterer. Their quote for just the labor to reskin the dash in the $400-500 range. The leather from Gahh would have been another $250-500 (1/2 hide is the minimum order).
