With a manual transmission 3.6L Carrera, is it possible to retrofit the factory option (220) LSD? Has anyone tried it before and was the installation difficult? Can you actually order the parts from Porsche for the retrofit? Do I need to reconfigure PSM? Thanks very much for your input.
To put a LSD in you have to have the tranny taken all apart. That will be pretty expensive. My guess you will be in it $4k or more. I say a better solution would be to find a tranny with a LSD and swap it, then sell your old one. I'm not sure about the PSM, call Andial they probably have more answers to your questions.
Stanmo,
I'm not sure I would agree with either of the two previous posts. Porsche is already using LSD with PSM so it can be done and installing an LSD really isn't a big deal. Pulling the trany and opening it up really doesn't take that long. I would never even consider buying a used one. It will be expensive though. I'm not sure what the factory LSD costs but a good aftermarket will be in the $2k range and you should figure on a day of labor.
Good luck,
Jim
JimB: If you look at the lockup ratios of the LSD in the 40th Anniversary 911 they're pretty low. Speculation is that's a limitation of making the LSD work with PSM.
