yes, that’s correct.

I guess what I was saying is while checking all the idle parameters the oil temp should be at 90c +\- 5c. I was never able to get to 90.

Default Update, pics..

This oil has about 200 miles on it, the filter was completely clean, none of the small glitter size pieces in the oil or the filter. The oil still has golden shimmer swirls. Not sure if that’s normal with the oil I’m using or if it’s something failing. The oil is Driven HR1, Dino oil.

I can’t really see any particulates in the oil with my eyes. Thoughts??

Was the engine hot when drained? What about the air temperature?

What does an unused volume of oil look like? I remember pouring in the GP-1 during my 5000 mile break-in (after the 1000) and noting the color of the oil was not 'oil' colored. I figured it was from the additives. Could those cause the swirling effect? I didn't pay any attention to it when it came out and the oil filter was clean. If you are really worried, drop the sump. If you have serious shedding problem, you'll have a layer of metal particles there.

this time it wasn’t, it was cold. Last time the oil was hot and looked the same, other than some larger glitter pieces in suspension. The oil I used is high in zinc, and other additives. Maybe that gives it that look. If the oil were dirty I’m guessing I wouldn’t have even noticed.

yeah, I’m dropping the sump this weekend because I had a small leak after the rebuild.

I was happy to not have any larger bits of non-ferrous metals in the filter or at the bottom of the drain pan.

I should also note, I’m sending a sample out.

Sounds like you have a good plan. The additives and oil temp probably account for the swirls, but with your due diligence and a little luck, you'll have a well informed outcome you can live with.
