Default Fuel pump failure

Haven't been on the forum for a while since the 996 has been running fine. Looks like I need another fuel pump. Replaced one about 20k miles ago.
All of a sudden crank no start. I know not an ignition issue because if I squirt some started fluid in the throttle body, it starts right up and runs for a couple of seconds. To be sure, I checked the fuel rail and no fuel.
Checked 30 amp fuse - good.
Tested relay - good.
When I remove relay and jump, I just hear a clunk. Which I guess is pump trying to spin.
Question - I'm doing this by myself with my head by the pedas. From there can you normally hear the pump running.
Question - when you engage the key (not to crank) there is a one or two second buzz from the front of the car. I know it's not the pump because it does it with relay out. Out of curosity, what is that buzz?
Last time I think I picked a cheaper pump off RockAuto. This time going to go with the VDO/Continental.
Anything else I'm missing before I order the pump?

Just did this in my car but it was a split hose. I do have the gt3 pump in my car and the c2 cars do not have the problem hose. Its a fairly simple job.

i picked up a cheap battery powered siphon from Lowes to empty the tank so i wasnt reaching into gas.

My issue.
