Brass is higher on the hardness scale than aluminum. However aluminum alloys can change that relationship so that the alloy is as hard or even harder. In short: be careful when using brass brushes on aluminum.
yea, I didn't find any aluminum scoring or any damage whatsoever to the machined surface, but if you are really concerned, a plastic brush may work also.
I'm using these and they are excellent at removing sealant. They are hard enough but being plastic they don't scratch aluminium etc at all. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076BBW1WM/
I have that exact tool as well, but someone recommended I try the magic eraser once for this specific job since the oil pan is a loose part and can be cleaned afterward and I'm telling you I was done in like 60 seconds. I'm not sure how much effect the goo gone had because I didn't try a magic eraser and water. A mechanic had recommended to me specifically the goo gone + eraser combo but warned to never do it if there was any risk of the pieces of sponge breaking off and falling into something. 10/10 would not recommend this method on the heads
