Default '02 carrera shifter cable question

I've had the problem with the cable popping off the tx end, and have read all about replacing the cables. While in the process of removing the console it occurred to me that it looks like the only thing that's wrong is the nylon(?) bushing that clips onto the steel ball on the tx linkage is worn to the point the cable slides off of it, leaving the bushing on the ball. Is it possible that a new bushing and a thorough cleaning of the eye on the cable end where the bushing seats can save me +/- $400 and the pain of pulling those cables? Any thoughts much appreciated.

What is the tx end? When I upgraded my shifter the cable ends were very worn, and required replacing. 8 and 9 here - https://www.dcauto.com/illustrations/2791?year=2001

Sorry, that's (tx) the transmission end the opposite of what you replaced. The shifter end of the cables appear to be fine, tho I was wondering if there is a bushing replacement kit to tighten up the shifter.

Gotcha. I'm not sure if there are oem replacement bushings, only the whole shifter. I used the function first shift right which is essentially bushing replacement. Not cheap but it works great.

Do this - they won't pop out anymore.

That is pretty work, but my fail point is the eye at the end of the cable. Talked to the dealer, he says there is no part #, it's part of the cable set. New ones on the way.
