Default 2002 Engine, oil shield/slinger in cylinder head

I have a 2002 996 and I am doing some work on my engine and removed the valve cover on bank 1. Looking through the parts diagram looks like there is supposed to be a oil shield/slinger next to the timing chain (see part 22, Porsche part # 996 104 233 01) in the diagram. However, mine doesn't have it. The engine has been rebuilt before so I am not too surprised that this piece may have been left out. Not sure how important that part is, but I figured that since I am already this far into the engine I might as well correct this mistake. However, I can't figure out where this piece bolts to. Anyone has a picture of this installed? Below is what my engine looks like.

It’s an oil baffle to prevent oil splashing directly into the AOS breather port. Maybe this pic helps.

Coopduc, thanks for the picture. I just wanted to confirm, is this the 3.4 or 3.6L engine? I have a 2002 car, so 3.6 engine and it looks completely different (see below). The part number is listed under a 3.6L engine in the Porsche catalog, but I guess it must be a mistake.

Mine is a 3.4 but the 3.6 should have one also. Unfortunately I don’t have another pic, but here is a page from the workshop manual also showing the part. (Item 17)

dgmark, I agree with you that doesn't look like the 3.6 engine has it. Coopduc, the diagram you posted is from a 3.4 engine. We are all in agreement that a 3.4L engine has it. My issue is that it also comes up in a diagram for a 3.6L as I described in the original post. However, I believe it is a mistake because now that I look at my engine with the intake camshaft removed, I see that there is no place to bolt one to. Therefore it must be a mistake in Porsche's catalog.

I did not have one on either of the heads on my 2004 3.6 when I tore it apart. Also, I just tore apart a 997 3.6 that I picked up with just a bank 2 head and that head did not have one as well. I'm guessing this is a 5 chain only piece.
