I think the vent openings are definitely larger allowing more air flow as well as bigger radiators thus requiring mesh to protect
also there was a small metal mesh on my new bumper I didn’t know it was added after it left the factory
but I’m taking Jakes advice and going commando

That definitely makes sense! By this logic, this could apply to C4S and other cars that might be running that turbo style bumper that has a much larger opening by comparison to a standard C2. 40AE cars actually run both, a turbo bumper and larger turbo radiators.

Whether the debris gets caught on the grille or on the radiator what's the difference? At least on the grille it's easier to clean off.
