Wouldn’t sand blasting strip all chrome and expose the original aluminum body?

In order to remove the chrome, which is much much harder than the aluminum, a heavy blasting material must me used. When the chrome comes off, the underlying aluminum is very easily eroded by the blast material, as the chrome doesn’t remove evenly.

The wheel shop repair facility owner I know, will not remove the chrome, but mechanically etch it with the medie, and sometimes 80 grit sandpaper to get mechanical adhesion. He won’t regularly do this, as it may not last and gets people mad at him when it doesn’t adhere.

I have some they he did a few years ago that are sticking well, but it’s not the best thing to paint to.
