Custom window switch panel with storage

Custom window switch panel with storage
After finalizing my last project which was replacement trim for shifter boot (post here - https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...any-ideas.html) and custom gauge cluster couple years earlier (post here - https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-oem-look.html) I started tackling another item that was bugging me for a long time. Its the window switch/ashtray cubby. With cost savings during the development of 996/986 Porsche tried to reuse same parts for all cars, so now us with coupes and 986s are left with rear window switch blanks taking up space where little phone storage would be very appreciated.
I’m still in prototyping phase, but here is what its shaping up to be.
With so many organic shapes in 996 its quite hard reverse engineering perfectly fitting accessory, but I’m getting there… still few hiccups to solve.
After prototyping is done I will make sure to offer short beta batch for members of this forum if anyone is interested.

I like it. Not to complicate anything, but will there be anything for those of us with Cabs and 4 window switches? I take it this will be 3D printed? Will this be paintable to match the interior? I may be interested in two units.

It will be 3d printed but not in commonly available FDM or SLA technology. 3d prints can be easily distinguished and will require much more prep to finish. I use a small run manufacturer in Texas to create the horseshoe trim for 996 shifter boot (check my other post linked above) using HP’s MJF (multi jet fusion) technology, parts are printed in nylon which makes the parts suitable for end use/heat/chemical resistance etc. and texture resembles typical plastic texture in cars.

Nice job! I think if you can do them for a reasonable price, you’ll sell bunches of them 😉👍

Yeah these look mega. I'd definitely be in for one just to delete the two blank window switches. USB and extra storage just makes it even sweeter.

kropka - Looks really good. Better lines than the original. Count me in. I’ll paint mine in Seal Grey to evaluate adhesion and durability. Cool idea! I also think USB spot at rear would be nice, but not required.

This looks great, if you can do it in black I'm in. Can't wait.
