Lightbulb Eluminator electric crate engine from Ford

  • Peak power: 210kW (281hp)
  • Peak torque: 430Nm (317 lb.-ft.)
  • Weight: 93kg / 205 lbs
I'd be real interested in having a 996 conversion kit made up for it. This sounds like a great option to go with when you engine dies.

I wonder how much weight saving this would actually be once the gas engine and tranny are out. Would there be enough room for the battery pack and engine to be located in the engine bay. Also the possibility of having a 2nd engine in from to drive the front wheels on awd carerra's.

I love the possibilities here. Using gas tank area for batteries, motor in the back. Would be really cool. I wonder how much KWh storage is available in front of the dash though?

I would guess it will disrupt the handling of the car, since you would be essentially be adding 300 or more pounds for the battery. You would lose 400 or so on the rear. You could put all the batteries where the fuel tank was it would get the weight behind the front wheels.

I suppose with all the extra room out back you could put some batteries there as well. I believe the batteries can weigh north of 600 pounds in small cars and double that in large cars.

EV conversion has been done in a couple of cars so far that I have seen. They mix the batteries up front and rear to distribute the weight.
I have a 2001 Biarritz White over natural brown tiptronic aero kit I am saving for my GTE project when it becomes more cost-effective.

We aren't there yet.

The Lucid Air motors weigh 163 pounds (each, total 326lbs) and can produce 670 horsepower (and spins at 20,000 rpm) for a power density of 4.11 hp per pound. The Eluminator is 1.37 HP/lb. Teslas are around 1.45 HP/lb.

That 20,000 rpm is important too, especially if you want to ditch the transmission and run direct drive.

I'm no EV hater but in a sports car I need a manual.

EV west retains manual trans in their conversions, but they only do older cars without electronics.

I think the crate motors (EV) are a great idea, the part I'm not sold on is the control electronics. As far as I know Ford doesn't include the electronics to run the motor and this is a huge problem, it can be very complicated and time consuming to find and tune to a specific motor.
It would be easy to sell a motor with electric control unit all setup and ready to go, seems a huge oversight by Ford imo
