I usually store my hardtop lying flat on a cushy mat on my basement floor during the driving season. My workshop is taking over this basement space so I am in the market for a different storage solution.
I am thinking of purchasing one of these wall mounted racks. Do these work well? Any concerns?
There was just a thread about this last week do a quick look for it. That unit in the link is very misleading, it's showing the wall rack, the cab roof rack, the trolley and it looks like that's all for $200+ dollars. If so I got ripped off, I paid over a grand for my trolley and the hard top cover with the porsche crest.
Thanks Rob - sorry I didn't see those previous posts.
Yes, the price is just for the rack - not the trolley. The image is definitely misleading. I figured I could build a trolley if needed, and for a lot less cost!
Originally posted by keoni1978 is that a rack thats suppose to go on top of thehard top or is it for the cab?? and do they make racks for the hard top?
They do make a roof rack for the cab - that's what you are seeing in the picture - they also make one for the cab hard top.
Originally posted by keoni1978 thanks Riad, I think you answered my question...I need a rack for my removable hard top not the soft top version and where can I get one? TIA
P.S. Where does the rack go because the hard top does not have the adapters like the coupe?
Hmm, I think the roof rack system for the cabs works with the hardtop too, not sure, but you can call any Porsche dealer and they would be able to order it for you.
I use a special hard top bag that mounts straight to the wall and has the extra benefit of padding the hardtop and protecting it from damage. See this thread
They don't make a roof rack that attaches to the hard top. The only roof rack for cabrios attaches to the A pillar and bracket that is just behind and outward of the rear windows. The rack in the pic must just be laying there.
The Autopak is a re-inforced nylon 'bag' with a soft padded lining. It has a zipper in a large U shape across the front to put the hardtop into the bag and close it up. The bag then hangs on the wall by two large 'd' rings securely stiched to the rear of the bag. Wall hooks etc are all supplied.
I am very happy with it as it is so well padded there are no risks of kids bikes scratching the h/top and no chance of any accidental damage.
Unfortunately the site where I first heard about the product has gone missing. I actually bought mine from these guys http://www.type-911.co.uk/ac_carprot.htm but the dollar/sterling rate really doesn't favour you buying across the pond at the moment.
Perhaps you can drop them a line and ask them if there is a US supplier ?
