Purchase advice -to buy or not? 2002 996 4S
Hi all,
Posted a few weeks back about a 996 I considering getting a PPI on. The seller sold before I could get a PPI but the buyer ended up walking back on the deal cause he found one locally. Long story short it's now available for sale once more. The original buyer got a partial PPI on it (a fairly basic PPI digging into the ECU and putting the car on a lift for visual inspection), The PPI came back with issues with the waterpump so the seller is going to replace it. Now this is where I come in again and I asked the seller for a more thorough PPI including digging into the engine for a bore scope and a compression test which is scheduled for later this week. If that comes back clean I am at that point probably going to purchase, but I wanted to get experienced 996 owners to weigh in once again in case I'm being naive.
Details on the car (attached the seller provided Carfax here for your perusal but here as the basic highlights):
- 2002 996 4S with 98K miles on the clock
- 3 owners and was originally bought and driven on the East Coast before being relocated to Oregon
- Partial service records (only have service records for the major items by reputable indy shops)
- Major services completed recently including IMS, RMS, Clutch, and AOS. So in that sense a lot of the major items and tend to break or replace have been done relatively recently.
- Has a collision on the drive side door listed on the Carfax however there is no indication of damage
- Seller is asking $32.8K
Guess what I'm asking is for whether this is a good deal or one to walk away from? Or alternatively what would you pay for this car? I haven't seen the car in person yet so I can only rely on what the seller and 3rd party indy shops have shared.
Thank you.
