My "new" 996 has finally arrived after full engine rebuild (02 C4 Cab) and I'm a bit puzzled re Sport Exhaust.

The car has got the button in center console to turn on & off sport exhaust and the sound really is different, but ... based on the VIN the option IXLF wasn't part of build specs.
Is it possible someone could have installed it later on and the car started life as regular exhaust car ?

Yes. Mine has it and it’s not on build sticker.

 

THX - you mean someone has it installed later on ? Or could it be done in the factory without the option on the sticker (most likely not ?)

I'm thinking about having it removed here if that wasn't factory option.

 

What does you options sticker under the hood say? PSE is listed there as just XLF.
