Default Camshaft Position Sensor Location (P0343 Code)

Hi everyone, I have a 2002 C4s and I'm getting the following code: P0343 Porsche fault code 112- Phase sensor 1 (camshaft Hall-effect sensor 1)

Can anyone guide me to the location of this sensor? I have the air intake off and looking in, under and around I'm seeing nothing that resembles the sensor.

Thanks!

On a 3.4l its in top under fuel rail. Bank 1 will be driverside on the front, trans/ firewall side.

Its reading a tab on then exhaust cam thats pressed on the end.

Thank you, do you know if it’s the same on the 3.6L?

I just changed both my cam position sensors on my ’03 3.6. Passenger side one can be accessed from under the car. Like the 6speedonline post, it’s tight but a short allen key will get it. Drivers side I did from the top. Removed the airbox, then sort of pushed the cooling lines aside and wrestled the bolt out. I found a hex bit with a ball end, on a 1/4” ratchet could be squeezed in to get it most of the way out, then fingers from there. It’s tight but manageable.

It’s a bit hidden behind coolant hoses, but look down to the rear facing portion of the head and you will see the wire lead.
