Default Need help -- 996 accident now carless

Hello everyone!

I recently (Aug 2020) purchased a 2000 ME 996 with pss9s and a lightweight flywheel. The car has been well maintained and truly a dream to drive. "The Machine" came from NY, where I flew to then roadtripped home (WI) post purchase. It was quite a memorable trip!

Come January, with our work from home situation, I decided to spend some time in Denver, which is when I, once again, hit the road with my dog and the 996. I've been a long-term tourist in Denver since - have driven the car about 10x to the mountains for weekend ski trips, etc.

Last Tuesday, someone decided to ram into my car and my experience here has changed quite a bit since. Thankfully, the insurance company will be covering about $7k in damages, but the biggest issue is sourcing parts. Some of them may need to be shipped from Germany, unfortunately, and the Duraflex 103748 aftermarket bumper that I had will not be in stock until June 18th! I cant imagine being here that long without a car. I've searched EVERYWHERE for it and the response from vendors hasn't varied given the common denominator being the manufacturer.

At this point, I don't know what to do as I'm at the mercy of the manufacturers' timelines and am basically helpless.

Are there comparable bumpers that I should consider? I've been on the classifieds multiple times a day for a week now with very little luck. The other option would be to go the stock bumper route, although, my car has a back bumper with vents and matching side skirts which would NOT pair well with stock 996 front bumper.

Please see pics attached.

Does anyone have suggestions? Per insurance, the budget for a bumper is $1,000, meaning that if I get a used bumper, the cost + repair for minor imperfections would need to equal that allotted amount.

Thank you so much for the help, everyone!

If it's just the bumper cover holding you back from driving, you *should* be able to drive it without the cover. In California, it's the bumper bar that's truly the bumper. While my rear bumper cover was being repainted, I drove around for a few weeks without a cover. Got a few weird looks, a few thumbs up but didn't get pulled over.

I suppose I could technically drive around without s bumper, yet since insurance is footing the bill, it's in my best interest to get everything sorted out before leaving the autobody shop's lot.

This is very helpful! Looks like I'd be stretching the bumper budget a bit. Lets see if I can find something to work with in these sites.
THANK YOU

Damage is purely cosmetic, but the coolant leak adds another layer to this. Whats concerning is that the Autobody shop had no idea about it - I had to inform them...

If you need a couple of OEM radiators, dm me. I replace mine with CSF and have two extras.

Hang in there, the supply chain delay is affecting multiple industries like mine (generators), ie months. It’s a pain for sure. The community here is a good place to go to though for help.

OP - My recco would be get a used .1 bumper cover now, get it painted chromaflair, then worry about the Duraflex add-on lip. That front coolant leak is probably an easy enough fix. I’d hesitate to drive around at all with a cover-less bumper. Ugly and affords rads zero protection.

Accidents suck. Fortunately everyone is ok and everything will work out for you. Positive vibes. The karma police are always on duty.

Did I read a while ago that Porsche no longer does the Chromaflair paint ?

Ouch! I really like the ME's. I think paint match is going to be the toughest part of the fix.
Someone hit you head on, or was it parked? Surprised the airbags didn't blow.

Why would matching paint be so hard? Competent body shops have been matching paint successfully for decades.

Because the ME has a specific type of paint called Violet chromaflair. The color changes depending on the light. Like a Ford Mustang Cobra painted in Mystic.

Try messaging "Chance Hales" on Rennlist. He has a Millenium edition as well and replaced/painted his bumper. He had quite a hard time finding paint but was eventually able to make it work. Perhaps he can give you some tips?
